Our care extends beyond labor and delivery. From pregnancy through postpartum and women's wellness, we're here to provide knowledgeable, relationship-centered care through every stage of motherhood—and beyond.
Our care extends beyond labor and delivery. From pregnancy through postpartum and women's wellness, we're here to provide knowledgeable, relationship-centered care through every stage of motherhood—and beyond.
We believe pregnancy care should begin long before the second trimester. Because many women know they're pregnant by four or five weeks, we encourage an initial visit around 8–9 weeks to establish care, complete labs, and begin building a relationship with your team.
Unlike traditional prenatal appointments that can feel rushed, our first visit is scheduled for a full hour, with follow-up appointments lasting 45–60 minutes. We take the time to answer questions, address concerns, and provide individualized care that considers the whole person, not just the pregnancy.
Throughout your prenatal journey, we'll monitor your health and your baby's growth while providing education and support every step of the way. We offer in-house lab draws, prenatal testing and counseling, and coordinate ultrasounds with trusted local facilities. We believe informed families make empowered decisions, and we're committed to providing the information and guidance you need to confidently navigate pregnancy, birth, and beyond.
Whether you're actively trying to conceive or simply planning for the future, preconception care is an opportunity to prepare your body and mind for a healthy pregnancy. During this one-hour consultation, you'll meet with a midwife to review your health history, discuss your goals, and receive personalized guidance tailored to your unique needs.
If desired, we can teach fertility awareness methods and cycle charting to help you better understand your body's natural rhythms and identify your most fertile window. We'll also discuss nutrition, supplements, exercise, and lifestyle factors that support fertility, pregnancy, and overall wellness. Laboratory testing may be ordered when indicated to provide additional insight and support.
Our goal is to help you build a strong foundation for conception and pregnancy while answering questions and addressing concerns along the way. After your initial visit, our midwives remain available for ongoing support and phone consultations as you navigate your journey to pregnancy.
Pregnancy and birth don't always follow a predictable path. If health concerns arise that require a higher level of medical care, we will help facilitate a smooth transition to the appropriate provider. When possible and desired, we can often continue to offer supportive tandem care alongside your medical team, ensuring you remain connected to the relationships you've built throughout your pregnancy.
If a transfer becomes necessary during labor or birth, our commitment to you does not end. We remain part of your support team, helping coordinate care, communicate with receiving providers, and walk alongside you throughout the process.
We also welcome families who are currently receiving care elsewhere but are interested in exploring their options. Whether you're early in pregnancy or approaching your due date, it is rarely too late to transfer your care. We are happy to review your records, answer your questions, and help you determine whether the Bozeman Birth Center is the right fit.
At the Bozeman Birth Center, we view birth as a normal, physiologic process that flourishes when women are supported, respected, and free from unnecessary intervention. Our care is rooted in trust—in the wisdom of mothers, the design of birth, and the relationships built throughout pregnancy.
Every family is cared for by a dedicated team of two licensed midwives and two midwifery apprentices. You'll know everyone attending your birth before labor begins, allowing for both continuity of care and an added layer of safety without sacrificing the calm, intimate environment families value.
Throughout labor, we provide individualized, evidence-based support using movement, hydrotherapy, position changes, encouragement, and careful monitoring. Our goal is simple: to help you feel safe, empowered, and deeply cared for as you welcome your baby into the world.
At the Bozeman Birth Center, labor and birth are approached as normal, physiologic processes that thrive when women are supported, respected, and allowed to labor without unnecessary intervention. Our philosophy is rooted in trust—trust in the design of birth, trust in the wisdom of mothers, and trust in the relationships built throughout pregnancy.
Our model is uniquely designed to provide both continuity of care and exceptional support. Throughout your journey, you will be cared for by two licensed midwives and two midwifery apprentices. You will have your own dedicated birth team—a midwife and apprentice who walk alongside you through prenatal visits, labor, birth, and postpartum care. Your baby has a team too. A second midwife and apprentice will meet you during the third trimester, ensuring there are no strangers at your birth. They attend labor, birth, newborn transition, and the immediate postpartum period, providing an additional layer of safety while maintaining the calm, intimate environment families desire.
We are intentional about not overcrowding your space. Our team enters with reverence and remains hands-off unless needed. Care is mother-led, baby-centered, and individualized to your unique needs. Throughout labor, your midwives provide continuous support using evidence-based care, careful monitoring, hydrotherapy, movement, position changes, encouragement, and comfort measures tailored to your preferences.
Our goal is to create a peaceful, nurturing environment where women feel safe, empowered, and deeply cared for as they welcome their babies into the world. By combining relationship-based care with skilled clinical support, we help families experience birth with confidence, connection, and trust.
For many families, laboring and giving birth in water offers a gentle, calming way to welcome a baby into the world. Water birth is a safe option for most low-risk women and is available at the Bozeman Birth Center at no additional cost. Our midwives are highly experienced in supporting both water labor and water birth and will help you determine whether it is the right choice for you and your baby.
Warm water naturally encourages relaxation, eases muscle tension, and provides significant pain relief during labor. The buoyancy of the water allows your body to move more freely, making it easier to change positions, conserve energy, and work with your contractions rather than against them. As your body relaxes, it can more easily produce the hormones that support labor, creating an environment where birth can unfold more naturally. Research has also shown that water immersion during labor may reduce blood pressure, increase endorphin production, improve blood flow to the uterus and baby, and decrease the likelihood of perineal trauma.
Every birth suite at the Bozeman Birth Center features a spacious soaking tub designed specifically for labor and birth. Whether you choose to birth in the water or simply use the tub as a comfort measure, hydrotherapy is one of the many tools available to help you create the birth experience you envision. Our role is to provide a safe, supportive environment while honoring your preferences and allowing labor to unfold at its own pace. There is no expectation that getting into the tub means you need to stay there or give birth in the water. You are free to move in and out, follow what feels right as labor changes, and decide in the moment where you feel most comfortable giving birth. Many women who ultimately give birth on land still describe laboring in the water as one of the most comforting and memorable parts of their birth experience.

A previous cesarean birth doesn't necessarily mean your next baby must be born the same way. For many women, a vaginal birth after cesarean (VBAC) is a safe, evidence-based option. At the Bozeman Birth Center, we believe every family deserves individualized counseling, compassionate support, and the opportunity to make informed decisions about their birth. Whether your previous cesarean was planned or unexpected, empowering or disappointing, we're here to help you explore your options without judgment.
If you're interested in pursuing a VBAC, our midwives will carefully review your medical history, previous birth experience, and operative report to determine whether an out-of-hospital birth is appropriate. We consider factors such as the type of uterine incision, the reason for your previous cesarean, the time between pregnancies, and your overall health to ensure the highest level of safety for both you and your baby.
Throughout your pregnancy, you'll receive longer appointments, personalized education, and the time to ask questions and process your previous birth experience. Together, we'll discuss the benefits and risks of a trial of labor after cesarean (TOLAC) and a planned repeat cesarean, empowering you to make the decision that feels right for your family.
Should circumstances arise that require a hospital transfer during labor, our commitment to you does not end. We will facilitate a seamless transition, communicate directly with the receiving team, and remain by your side as part of your birth team, continuing to provide support and advocacy throughout your birth. Our goal is to help you approach your next birth with confidence, knowing you are informed, supported, and cared for every step of the way.

At the Bozeman Birth Center, the health and safety of you and your baby are our highest priorities. Safety begins long before labor through careful screening, evidence-based care, and ongoing assessment throughout pregnancy. We care for healthy women with low-risk pregnancies and continually evaluate whether the Birth Center remains the safest place for you to give birth. If your needs change, we'll discuss your options and help coordinate the care that's right for you and your baby.
Our midwives and apprentices are highly trained to recognize and respond to emergencies with confidence and skill. Every member of our birth team is certified in adult, child, and infant CPR, neonatal resuscitation, and emergency response. The Birth Center is equipped with oxygen, IV therapy, medications to treat postpartum hemorrhage, and other essential emergency supplies, allowing us to safely manage many situations on site.
When a higher level of care is needed, most hospital transfers are not emergencies. They are thoughtful, collaborative decisions made with your family when additional resources available in a hospital setting will better support you or your baby. We have a strong working relationship with Bozeman Health and communicate directly with the receiving team to ensure a smooth, seamless transition. If a transfer becomes necessary, your midwife will accompany you to the hospital, continuing to provide support, advocacy, and continuity of care.
For carefully screened, low-risk pregnancies, planned out-of-hospital birth with qualified midwives is a safe, evidence-based option associated with fewer medical interventions and high levels of maternal satisfaction.
