Laney's journey into birth work began while serving families in the Dominican Republic. She was drawn to midwifery because of its focus on relationships, education, and supporting women through one of life's most transformative experiences.
Known for her quick wit and ability to put families at ease, Laney brings both compassion and humor to every appointment. She believes birth is powerful, families are resilient, and laughter often belongs in the birth room right alongside hard work.
At home, Laney and her husband are busy raising their daughter, Georgia, whose spirited personality has earned her the unofficial title of Bozeman Birth Center's permanent Employee of the Month.

Marissa is a Certified Professional Midwife, and soon-to-be Montana Licensed Midwife whose passion for birth began long before she entered formal training. Having been born at home herself, she grew up understanding birth as a normal and powerful part of life and has carried that perspective into her work with families.
She is deeply committed to informed consent, emotional support, and helping women feel confident in their ability to navigate pregnancy, birth, and motherhood. Marissa has a gift for helping families understand the deeper meaning behind their experience.
In fact, if you've spent much time around her, you've probably noticed that she can turn almost any situation into a birth analogy—a skill that reflects both her sense of humor and her profound understanding of the physical and emotional journey of birth.

Our Values

Evidence-based,
Holistic care.

We follow the same clinical standards as hospital-based providers in a low-intervention, high-support environment, allowing you to feel safe, seen, and in charge of your care.

Families should
be informed.

We want you empowered and equipped to make decisions. We believe in giving families options, sharing evidence-based data and providing thorough education.

Birth belongs to the mother.

The experience should be led by her voice, her choices, and her timing. Healthy, low-risk women can give birth safely in out-of-hospital settings, including in the water.

The experience should be led by her voice, her choices, and her timing. Healthy, low-risk women can give birth safely in out-of-hospital settings.

We can hear you thinking, “You have a new baby. Of course your life will change.” And yeah, that’s totally true.
But it’s also not what we mean.
Giving birth changes how you feel about yourself. It changes the way you see your own strength, the way you trust yourself, and the way you step into motherhood.
How you are treated during this transformation matters.
You deserve to be seen, heard, and understood as you navigate pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. You deserve to know what is happening and why. You deserve to have a voice in your care and authority over what happens to your body and your baby.
We want you to walk away from your birth knowing that your questions mattered. Your decisions mattered. That you were never simply "along for the ride."
To achieve this, we’re going to ask something of you, too.
Learn. Ask questions. Understand your options. Get curious about your body and birth. Know what matters to you before you’re asked to make decisions you weren’t expecting to face.
Informed choice requires information. You don't have to have all the answers, but you do need to know enough to ask good questions, trust your own judgment, and make the decisions that are right for you and your family.
We’ll bring our knowledge, experience, and clinical skills. You bring something we can’t: YOU.

Midwives are trained healthcare professionals who specialize in low-risk pregnancy, birth, postpartum, and newborn care. At the heart of midwifery is a deep understanding of normal, physiologic birth and the ability to recognize when something falls outside of normal.
The word midwife means “with woman,” and that relationship is central to the way midwives practice. Rather than simply managing pregnancy and birth, midwives care for the whole person: taking time to listen, offering education and guidance, supporting informed decision-making, and building relationship throughout pregnancy, birth and postpartum.
The Midwifery Model of Care begins with the understanding that pregnancy and birth are normal physiologic processes. Care is individualized to each woman and family, with interventions used thoughtfully and when medically indicated. Midwives monitor the health and wellbeing of both mother and baby, identify complications, manage appropriate concerns within their scope, and collaborate with or refer to other healthcare providers when a higher level of care is needed.
Midwifery is both an old profession and a modern one. Today’s midwives complete extensive education and clinical training and meet professional standards for certification and licensure. At Bozeman Birth Center, our Certified Professional Midwives are licensed in Montana and specialize in out-of-hospital maternity care.
Simply put, midwives are experts in normal birth, trained to recognize when it isn’t normal, and committed to caring for women with skill, respect, and attention along the way.

What is a midwife?

A birth center is a freestanding healthcare facility designed specifically for pregnancy, birth, postpartum, and newborn care outside of the hospital. Care is typically provided by midwives and is intended for healthy women with low-risk pregnancies.
Birth centers offer a different environment for birth: comfortable, familiar, and designed to support normal physiology while providing skilled clinical care. Women are encouraged to move freely, eat and drink, labor in water, choose the positions that feel right, and surround themselves with the people they want beside them.
Midwives monitor the wellbeing of both mother and baby throughout labor and birth, with medications, emergency equipment, and established plans for consultation or hospital transfer when a higher level of care is needed.
Birth centers also have clear guidelines for who can safely give birth there. For appropriately screened, low-risk pregnancies, research supports planned birth-center birth as a safe option with lower rates of many medical interventions.
For families who want an out-of-hospital birth but aren’t quite ready to give birth at home, a birth center offers another option: the freedom and autonomy of midwifery care in a space built specifically for birth.

What is a birth center?

Comprehensive care

insurance Reimbursement

Insurance companies are required by law to compensate for care provided by a licensed midwife. We will provide a verification of benefits and help you apply for gap coverage if you are denied. The amount of reimbursement varies, but we will work to make sure you are able to anticipate any out-of-pocket costs.

Hemorrhage Safeguards

We have the ability to use IVs, IV medications and prescription medications to control maternal hemorrhage both at the birth center and at home.

Laboratory services

We draw our lab work in house and work directly with an accredited laboratory. No need to go elsewhere for lab services.

Non-diagnostic ultrasounds

We offer in-house ultrasounds, providing convenient and immediate imaging. For more advanced scans, we collaborate with specialists to ensure comprehensive and expert care.

On-site supplements

We offer our most commonly recommended supplements from our favorite brands on-site at the birth center. Additionally, Managing Midwife Amy Kirbow specializes in herbal remedies, teas and tinctures, also available for sale.
